The Unmatched Versatility of Salers Cattle
Watch the video above to learn more about the Unmatched Versatility of Salers Cattle!
The Salers Advantage Begins with the Female…
Fertility and Longevity of the Salers Female – the breed-up on Salers influenced females is outstanding. Commercial producers have experienced first-hand how the Salers females get bred early in the breeding season. More cows bred with more live calves born early in the breeding season will enhance your operation’s profitability.
Calving ease and calf vigor – The inherent calf shape allows for the Salers-influenced calf to be born unassisted and be up nursing in an unbelievable short amount of time. After a tough stretch of winter, one breeder stated, “this calf vigor is real – they have a will to live and they get up and nurse while some of these other ones are slow and getting froze down.”
Milk and mothering ability add to the Salers-influenced cow’s maternal value. After that less-stressful birth, the Salers cow takes care of her calf and provides the milk production required to wean a heavy calf.
Unmatched Grazing and Rangeability – The Salers cattle will get out and graze the hills and utilize the entire pasture and rangeland. These traits have been witnessed by commercial producers across the country. The cattle don’t camp on the riparian areas and will graze the hillsides and get to the top and use the entire pasture. They also tend to stay mothered up for those that need to trail long distances.
The bulls are aggressive breeders and typically stay sound with good hoof structure and correct feet and legs. They provide added longevity as a result and can last for multiple breeding seasons.
Feedlot performance and carcass quality are the final measurement of a breed’s capabilities. Feedlots are learning that Salers sired cattle finish with performance equal to or better than other popular breeds for gain, feed conversion and cost of gain. In fact, feedlots are finding that Salers generate the highest returns.
Salers feeder cattle are known for their ability to produce lean carcasses at the required market weight with the desired marbling to ensure tenderness. A valuable commodity in a competitive market where quality is rewarded.
